Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing and chemical peels are techniques that help reduce wrinkles on the skin. These treatments remove the top layers of the aged skin, allowing new healthy skin to grow back. As a result, wrinkles improve, pigmentation is removed or reduced, and collagen growth is stimulated. Patients typically range from their late thirties to early forties when they begin having these procedures done.

Patients can have these procedures done in the office under local anesthesia with light sedation. The doctor uses the CO2 laser for skin resurfacing, as it produces the best results when used properly. The laser is passed over the skin and an immediate reduction of wrinkles can be seen. After laser, an ointment is applied to facilitate healing of the skin. Patients will have pinkness of the skin after the procedure for at least a few weeks. Most patients return to work in 1-2 weeks. If a chemical peel is done, the chemical (trichloroacetic acid or "TCA") is applied evenly over the face to achieve a smooth result.
